PIKOLINOS MAASAI

The craftsmanship of the Maasai women perfectly captures the beauty and colours of their identity and their culture. In Maasai society women play a key role when it comes to the welfare of their families and their community. They are responsible for all domestic tasks, which include making their huts, harvesting and raising their children.
Due to the impact of tourism and the need to adapt to living in harmony with the white man, the Maasai have had to look for new ways to ensure their subsistence and to preserve their identity and values. Selling handicrafts is the only source of income they have to meet their basic needs.
The collaboration of Pikolinos with the Association for Development, Alternative Commerce and Micro-credits (ADCAM) has enabled this community to market a collection of ethnic shoes. ADCAM is an association that works to promote social projects in various parts of the world, and specialises in education, women and micro-credits.
